Ford Explorer and Bronco Sport Are Top Safety Pick + Winners

The 2022 Ford Explorer and 2022 Bronco Sport SUVs recently took home the highest safety accolade – a Top Safety Pick + award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). This is also the second year in a row that the all-new Bronco Sport has taken home a Top Safety Pick + award.

According to Ford, both vehicles scored a rating of good in all six crashworthiness tests, the top rating in each category. The six IIHS crashworthiness tests include driver – and passenger – side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints.

To qualify to a Top Safety Pick + award, vehicles must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. Ratings of good or acceptable for headlights must be standard on all models, regardless of trim level.

A total of five other Ford models have earned IIHS Top Safety Pick awards, including the Mustang Mach-E, Ford Edge, Ford Escape, and Ford F-150 (crew cab and extended cab).
